That Day and Hour Knoweth No Man

Scripture says we will not know the hour our LORD will come (Matthew 24:42), yet Jesus commands us to watch so that it does not come as a thief in the night (Matthew 24:43).

It seems this scripture passage specifically is referring to the rapture of the Church and not the Second Coming of Jesus:

Matthew 24:36-42 KJV - But of that day and hour knoweth no man, no, not the angels of heaven, but my Father only. [37] But as the days of Noe (Noah) were, so shall also the coming of the Son of man be. [38] For as in the days that were before the flood they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day that Noe entered into the ark, [39] And knew not until the flood came, and took them all away; so shall also the coming of the Son of man be. [40] Then shall two be in the field; the one shall be taken, and the other left. [41] Two women shall be grinding at the mill; the one shall be taken, and the other left. [42] Watch therefore: for ye know not what hour your Lord doth come.

This passage tells us that two will be in the field and the other left, which matches the instant catching away spoken of in this passage regarding the rapture (the catching up rapture by Jesus Christ):

1 Corinthians 15:52-53 KJV - In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed. [53] For this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal must put on immortality.

* See also 1 Thessalonians 4:16

Luke 17:26-30 KJV - And as it was in the days of Noe, so shall it be also in the days of the Son of man. [27] They did eat, they drank, they married wives, they were given in marriage, until the day that Noe entered into the ark, and the flood came, and destroyed them all. [28] Likewise also as it was in the days of Lot; they did eat, they drank, they bought, they sold, they planted, they builded; [29] But the same day that Lot went out of Sodom it rained fire and brimstone from heaven, and destroyed them all. [30] Even thus shall it be in the day when the Son of man is revealed.

This seems to indicate that just like Noah and Lot, God will save His remnant, His sanctified and faithful ones that believe in Jesus as LORD and savior, from the flood of judgment that will come upon the entire world. In an instant, we will be changed and caught up to Heaven before the day of judgment. This seems to match this Biblical passage as well:

Revelation 3:10-11 KJV - Because thou hast kept the word of my patience, I also will keep thee from the hour of temptation, which shall come upon all the world, to try them that dwell upon the earth. [11] Behold, I come quickly: hold that fast which thou hast, that no man take thy crown.

The Rapture vs The Return
• A Baby Born, A Holy Nation

If Matthew 24, is only talking about the second coming, then why did He say we will not know when it will come? Matthew 24 is not only talking about His Second coming where He returns to earth with all of the Saints (Revelation 19), but also the surprise rapture event before or at the same time of sudden destruction (1 Thessalonians 5:3).

Christians Up, Bombs Down
• The Four Horsemen Mount Up

According to Matthew 24, it seems there is an event set as a marker that will tell us exactly when Jesus will return to the earth.

Matthew 24:15 KJV - When ye therefore shall see the abomination of desolation, spoken of by Daniel the prophet, stand in the holy place, (whoso readeth, let him understand:)

Abomination of Desolation

Hannukah A Foreshadow

According to Daniel, this event will happen in the middle of the 7 year tribulation period known as Jacob's trouble, or Daniel's 70th week.

Daniel 9:27 KJV - And he (The AntiChrist) shall confirm the covenant with many for one week (the Hebrew word means 7 years): and in the midst of the week (3.5 years or 42 months) he shall cause the sacrifice and the oblation to cease, and for the overspreading of abominations he shall make it desolate, even until the consummation, and that determined shall be poured upon the desolate.

According to the Books of Matthew and Daniel, the Abomination of desolation seems to be 3.5 years before Jesus returns, thus meaning we will know the timing of Jesus's Second Coming but not the rapture:

Daniel 12:11-12 KJV — And from the time that the daily sacrifice shall be taken away, and the abomination that maketh desolate set up, there shall be a thousand two hundred and ninety days (just over 3.5 years). Blessed is he that waiteth, and cometh to the thousand three hundred and five and thirty days.

In Matthew 24, we know the great tribulation is directly after the Abomination of Desolation in the Third Temple in Jerusalem (2 Thessalonians 2:4). Then Jesus will cut those days short:

Matthew 24:22 KJV - And except those days should be shortened, there should no flesh be saved: but for the elect's sake those days shall be shortened.

Matthew 24:29-31 KJV - Immediately after the tribulation of those days shall the sun be darkened, and the moon shall not give her light, and the stars shall fall from heaven, and the powers of the heavens shall be shaken: [30] And then shall appear the sign of the Son of man in heaven: and then shall all the tribes of the earth mourn, and they shall see the Son of man coming in the clouds of heaven with power and great glory. [31] And he shall send his angels with a great sound of a trumpet, and they shall gather together his elect from the four winds, from one end of heaven to the other.

This second coming is much different than the rapture or catching away which seems to happen before the tribulation starts. This Second Coming of Christ Jesus is also spoken of in Revelation 19, Zechariah 14, Jude 1:14, and Enoch 1.

* Note - there is a resurrection of the Christian martyrs who gave their life for Jesus during the 7 year tribulation period, and they will reign and rule with Christ during His Milinial Kingdom after the 7 year Tribulation (Revelation 20:4).

In the Book of Daniel, we see that after the 70th week, everlasting righteousness will be brought in, and this ofcourse is referring to the reign and rule of Jesus on earth in Jerusalem, and the birth of the body of Christ into their incorruptible bodies as priests and kings with Jesus in His Kingdom:

Daniel 9:24 KJV - Seventy weeks (490 years) are determined upon thy people (Israel) and upon thy holy city (Jerusalem), to finish the transgression, and to make an end of sins, and to make reconciliation for iniquity, and to bring in everlasting righteousness, and to seal up the vision and prophecy, and to anoint the most Holy.

It is said that Israel has completed 69 weeks (483 years) of the 70 weeks (490 years) after the Messiah was cut off around 30-33 AD. This of course is referring to the crucifixion of Jesus (God Embodied - the Creator):

Daniel 9:25-27 KJV — Know therefore and understand, that from the going forth of the commandment to restore and to build Jerusalem unto the Messiah the Prince shall be seven weeks, and threescore and two weeks (69 weeks): the street shall be built again, and the wall, even in troublous times. [26] And after threescore and two weeks (62 weeks) shall Messiah (Jesus/Yeshua) be cut off, but not for himself: and the people of the prince that shall come shall destroy the city and the sanctuary; and the end thereof shall be with a flood, and unto the end of the war desolations are determined. [27] And he (Man of Sin) shall confirm the covenant with man  for one week (7 Years): and in the midst of the week (3.5 years - 42 months) he shall cause the sacrifice and the oblation to cease, and for the overspreading of abominations he shall make it desolate, even until the consummation, and that determined shall be poured upon the desolate.

* It appears in 445 BC, under Artaxerxes the King of Persia, Nehemiah received authority to rebuild the 2nd Temple in Jerusalem to begin the 69 week count:

Nehemiah 2:1 KJV — And it came to pass in the month Nisan, in the twentieth year of Artaxerxes the king, that wine was before him: and I took up the wine, and gave it unto the king. Now I had not been beforetime sad in his presence.

Nehemiah 2:8 KJV — And a letter unto Asaph the keeper of the king's forest, that he may give me timber to make beams for the gates of the palace which appertained to the house, and for the wall of the city, and for the house that I shall enter into. And the king granted me, according to the good hand of my God upon me.

There is one more week, one more 7 year period until Daniel's 70 weeks are complete and everlasting righteousness is brought in with the return of Jesus:

Daniel 7:24-27 KJV - And the ten horns out of this kingdom are ten kings that shall arise: and another shall rise after them; and he shall be diverse from the first, and he shall subdue three kings. [25] And he shall speak great words against the most High, and shall wear out the saints of the most High, and think to change times and laws: and they shall be given into his hand until a time and times and the dividing of time. [26] But the judgment shall sit, and they shall take away his dominion, to consume and to destroy it unto the end. [27] And the kingdom and dominion, and the greatness of the kingdom under the whole heaven, shall be given to the people of the saints of the most High, whose kingdom is an everlasting kingdom, and all dominions shall serve and obey him.

We may not know the day or hour of the rapture, but Jesus tells us there will be signs:

Birthpains Increasing
Third Day

A New Heavens, A New Earth

The Apostle Peter tells us that the end of this age and the day of the Lord's vengeance will appear as a thief in the night, where the current heavens and the earth are destroyed. I believe Peter is speaking about Daniel's 70th Week and the judgments pertaining to the Book of Revelation:

2 Peter 3:3-14 KJV — Knowing this first, that there shall come in the last days scoffers, walking after their own lusts, And saying, Where is the promise of his coming? for since the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they were from the beginning of the creation. For this they willingly are ignorant of, that by the word of God the heavens were of old, and the earth standing out of the water and in the water: Whereby the world that then was, being overflowed with water, perished: But the heavens and the earth, which are now, by the same word are kept in store, reserved unto fire against the day of judgment and perdition of ungodly men. But, beloved, be not ignorant of this one thing, that one day is with the Lord as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day. The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance. But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up. Seeing then that all these things shall be dissolved, what manner of persons ought ye to be in all holy conversation and godliness, Looking for and hasting unto the coming of the day of God, wherein the heavens being on fire shall be dissolved, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat? Nevertheless we, according to his promise, look for new heavens and a new earth, wherein dwelleth righteousness. Wherefore, beloved, seeing that ye look for such things, be diligent that ye may be found of him in peace, without spot, and blameless.

We understand from Genesis, that the days of Noah were so evil that God YHVH flooded the entire world and saved only Noah and his family by means of the Ark. Jesus tells us in Matthew 24, that the day of the YHVH will come when the earth is as the days of Noah, and I believe that time is now. The rapture event (1 Corinthians 15:52), I believe is a type of boarding the Ark where the remnant of Christ will abide safely in Heaven for 7 years until the new flood of judgements are over.

Matthew 24:35-42 KJV — Heaven and earth shall pass away, but my words shall not pass away. But of that day and hour knoweth no man, no, not the angels of heaven, but my Father only. But as the days of Noe were, so shall also the coming of the Son of man be. For as in the days that were before the flood they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day that Noe entered into the ark, And knew not until the flood came, and took them all away; so shall also the coming of the Son of man be. Then shall two be in the field; the one shall be taken, and the other left. Two women shall be grinding at the mill; the one shall be taken, and the other left. Watch therefore: for ye know not what hour your Lord doth come.

Jesus tells us two will be in the field and one taken, which seems to depict the rapture event of 1 Corinthians 15, where the dead in Christ and the remaining remnant are translated into heaven in an instant, before the terrible day of the Lord YHVH. Just as Lot and his family where spared from the fire and brimstone.

We see below that Isaiah prophesied that a seed of Jacob, which Apostle Paul says in Galatians 3 refers to Christ Jesus and His followers either Jew or Gentile, will reside in the new Heavens and the New Earth:

Isaiah 65:9-10 KJV — And I will bring forth a seed out of Jacob, and out of Judah an inheritor of my mountains: and mine elect shall inherit it, and my servants shall dwell there. And Sharon shall be a fold of flocks, and the valley of Achor a place for the herds to lie down in, for my people that have sought me.

I believe that Jesus will rule in the New Heavens and the New Earth seated in Jerusalem in His Millennial Kingdom as Lord of Lords and King of Kings:

Isaiah 66:22-24 KJV — For as the new heavens and the new earth, which I will make, shall remain before me, saith the LORD, so shall your seed and your name remain. And it shall come to pass, that from one new moon to another, and from one sabbath to another, shall all flesh come to worship before me, saith the LORD. And they shall go forth, and look upon the carcases of the men that have transgressed against me: for their worm shall not die, neither shall their fire be quenched; and they shall be an abhorring unto all flesh.

It appears that the expression of a fire not being quenched and a worm dying not is speaking about hell and eternal torment, and was alluded to by Jesus:

Mark 9:43-48 KJV — And if thy hand offend thee, cut it off: it is better for thee to enter into life maimed, than having two hands to go into hell, into the fire that never shall be quenched: Where their worm dieth not, and the fire is not quenched. And if thy foot offend thee, cut it off: it is better for thee to enter halt into life, than having two feet to be cast into hell, into the fire that never shall be quenched: Where their worm dieth not, and the fire is not quenched. And if thine eye offend thee, pluck it out: it is better for thee to enter into the kingdom of God with one eye, than having two eyes to be cast into hell fire: Where their worm dieth not, and the fire is not quenched.

The Book of Revelation, written by Apostle John, also speaks about a New Heaven and a New Earth after Jesus returns and establishes His Kingdom on earth:

Revelation 21:1-8 KJV — And I saw a new heaven and a new earth: for the first heaven and the first earth were passed away; and there was no more sea. And I John saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down from God out of heaven, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband. And I heard a great voice out of heaven saying, Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and he will dwell with them, and they shall be his people, and God himself shall be with them, and be their God. And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away. And he that sat upon the throne said, Behold, I make all things new. And he said unto me, Write: for these words are true and faithful. And he said unto me, It is done. I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end. I will give unto him that is athirst of the fountain of the water of life freely. He that overcometh shall inherit all things; and I will be his God, and he shall be my son. But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death.
