Victory at Golgotha

In the Old Testament (Tanakh), it tells of how King David was used by God to defeat the Nephilim Giant (Article Here) Goliath, who sought to destroy God's children.

After David, the small Shepherd Boy, defeated the Giant, the head of Goliath was taken to Jerusalem:

1 Samuel 17:53-54 KJV - And the children of Israel returned from chasing after the Philistines, and they spoiled their tents. [54] And David took the head of the Philistine, and brought it to Jerusalem (Golgotha?); but he put his armour in his tent.

When David killed Goliath and cut of his head, it was a foreshadow of Jesus defeating Satan on the cross. For more information on how this story parallels the life of Messiah Jesus, please see my article:

Messianic Rabbi Zev Porat believes that Goliath's head is probably buried in Golgatha (the skull) and is the same place where Jesus was crucified and defeated Satan.

When Jesus, God the Son, willingly went to the cross for our sins (Isaiah 52), He was taken to Golgotha, which in the Hebrew tongue means the place of the skull.

Matthew 27:33-37 KJV - And when they were come unto a place called Golgotha, that is to say, a place of a skull, [34] They gave him vinegar to drink mingled with gall: and when he had tasted thereof , he would not drink. [35] And they crucified him, and parted his garments, casting lots: that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the prophet, They parted my garments among them, and upon my vesture did they cast lots. [36] And sitting down they watched him there; [37] And set up over his head his accusation written, THIS IS JESUS THE KING OF THE JEWS .

You see, Jesus went to the cross to make atonement for our sins as the Passover Lamb of God in order to seal the New Covenant with His own blood (Hebrews 10). Jesus defeated sin and death and bruised the head of the serpent, the plans of Satan to condemn us to hell.

Colossians 2:13-15 KJV - And you, being dead in your sins and the uncircumcision of your flesh, hath he quickened together with him, having forgiven you all trespasses; [14] Blotting out the handwriting of ordinances that was against us, which was contrary to us, and took it out of the way, nailing it to his cross; [15] And having spoiled principalities and powers, he made a shew of them openly, triumphing over them in it.

Jesus was Unleavened, meaning without sin, and yet Satan used people by means of temptation and sin to betray, condemn, beat, mock, and crucify the Holy One.

All of this was prophesied of in the beginning of Creation. When Satan tempted Eve into sin, God the Father prophesied that Satan, the serpent, would have his head bruised. This is most likely referring to Jesus being born by the Spirit of God, reclaiming His people, and defeating the curse of the law and the wages of sin that Satan traps people in.

Genesis 3:14-15 KJV - And the Lord God said unto the serpent, Because thou hast done this, thou art cursed above all cattle, and above every beast of the field; upon thy belly shalt thou go, and dust shalt thou eat all the days of thy life: [15] And I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed; it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel.

Is Satan Real?

Jesus gives us patterns and events that parallel each other from the Old Testament to the New Testament.

For instance, Jesus ascended to Heaven after His death, b, and resurrection from the Mount of Olives.

Acts 1:9-12 KJV - And when he had spoken these things, while they beheld, he was taken up; and a cloud received him out of their sight. [10] And while they looked stedfastly toward heaven as he went up, behold, two men stood by them in white apparel; [11] Which also said, Ye men of Galilee, why stand ye gazing up into heaven? this same Jesus, which is taken up from you into heaven, shall so come in like manner as ye have seen him go into heaven. [12] Then returned they unto Jerusalem from the mount called Olivet, which is from Jerusalem a sabbath day's journey.

It is prophesied that Jesus will step foot on the Mount of Olives when He returns to defeat the AntiChrist and False Prophet, and win the Battle of Armageddon:

Zechariah 14:1-4 KJV - Behold, the day of the Lord cometh, and thy spoil shall be divided in the midst of thee. [2] For I will gather all nations against Jerusalem to battle; and the city shall be taken, and the houses rifled, and the women ravished; and half of the city shall go forth into captivity, and the residue of the people shall not be cut off from the city. [3] Then shall the Lord go forth, and fight against those nations, as when he fought in the day of battle. [4] And his feet shall stand in that day upon the mount of Olives, which is before Jerusalem on the east, and the mount of Olives shall cleave in the midst thereof toward the east and toward the west, and there shall be a very great valley; and half of the mountain shall remove toward the north, and half of it toward the south.
