Scarlet Thread - A Rahab Redemption!
The Old Testament, also known as the Jewish Tanakh, is full of types and foreshadows that speak of things that would come with the revealing of the Messiah and the New Covenant, which is through Yeshua Jesus and the blood He shed on the cross. This article will attempt to propose an argument for the Book of Joshua to be a shadow of the Gentile Bride of Christ being delivered before the destruction of the world in the latter days.
Claiming the Promised Land
In the Old Testament, we know that God YHVH gave a promise to Abraham that his seed would inherit a land and become a great nation:
- Genesis 15:18 KJV — In the same day the LORD made a covenant with Abram, saying, Unto thy seed have I given this land, from the river of Egypt unto the great river, the river Euphrates.
In Genesis 35, the blessing was given to Jacob, the son of Isaac and grandson of Abraham, and Jacob's 12 sons became the 12 tribes of Israel. After 400 years of bondage, God YHVH sent Moses to deliver his brethren the Israelites from the cruel bondage of the Pharaoh of Egypt. This is a type and shadow of how God YHVH would later send Yeshua Jesus to bring in a New Covenant (Jeremiah 31:31) to deliver the believers in the Messiah from the bondage of Satan (Pharaoh) and to bring them out of the ways of the world (Egypt) by the blood of the Passover Lamb (Isaiah 53).
The Book of Joshua tells us how God YHVH brought his people of the Old Covenant into the Promised Land:
- Joshua 1:1-7 KJV — Now after the death of Moses the servant of the LORD it came to pass, that the LORD spake unto Joshua the son of Nun, Moses' minister, saying, Moses my servant is dead; now therefore arise, go over this Jordan, thou, and all this people, unto the land which I do give to them, even to the children of Israel. Every place that the sole of your foot shall tread upon, that have I given unto you, as I said unto Moses. From the wilderness and this Lebanon even unto the great river, the river Euphrates, all the land of the Hittites, and unto the great sea toward the going down of the sun, shall be your coast. There shall not any man be able to stand before thee all the days of thy life: as I was with Moses, so I will be with thee: I will not fail thee, nor forsake thee. Be strong and of a good courage: for unto this people shalt thou divide for an inheritance the land, which I sware unto their fathers to give them. Only be thou strong and very courageous, that thou mayest observe to do according to all the law, which Moses my servant commanded thee: turn not from it to the right hand or to the left, that thou mayest prosper whithersoever thou goest.
I believe Joshua is a type and shadow of Yeshua Jesus the Messiah and incarnation of YHVH God in the flesh (2 Corinthians 5:19) who will bring His believers up into the new Promised Land pass the waters above at rapture of the Church (1 Thessalonians 4:16) and later to the return of Yeshua Jesus to Israel to set up His Millennial Kingdom with His body of believers. This is seen here:
- Zechariah 14:3-9 KJV — Then shall the LORD go forth, and fight against those nations, as when he fought in the day of battle. And his feet shall stand in that day upon the mount of Olives, which is before Jerusalem on the east, and the mount of Olives shall cleave in the midst thereof toward the east and toward the west, and there shall be a very great valley; and half of the mountain shall remove toward the north, and half of it toward the south. And ye shall flee to the valley of the mountains; for the valley of the mountains shall reach unto Azal: yea, ye shall flee, like as ye fled from before the earthquake in the days of Uzziah king of Judah: and the LORD my God shall come, and all the saints with thee. And it shall come to pass in that day, that the light shall not be clear, nor dark: But it shall be one day which shall be known to the LORD, not day, nor night: but it shall come to pass, that at evening time it shall be light. And it shall be in that day, that living waters shall go out from Jerusalem; half of them toward the former sea, and half of them toward the hinder sea: in summer and in winter shall it be. And the LORD shall be king over all the earth: in that day shall there be one LORD, and his name one.
Christ the Messiah must destroy the symbolic strong city of Jericho (The Antichrist New World Order) in order to inherit all nations at His Second Coming:
- Psalm 2:6-9 KJV — Yet have I set my king upon my holy hill of Zion. I will declare the decree: the LORD hath said unto me, Thou art my Son; this day have I begotten thee. Ask of me, and I shall give thee the heathen for thine inheritance, and the uttermost parts of the earth for thy possession. Thou shalt break them with a rod of iron; thou shalt dash them in pieces like a potter's vessel.
When Joshua and the Israelites crossed over River Jordan they had to battle against hybrid Giants to win the Promised Land. Likewise, when Christ Yeshua returns from Heaven to take back the Promised Land, He will have to battle the Antichrist and an army of Hybrids.
Spying Out the Promised Land
In the Book of Joshua, we see that Joshua sent spies into Jericho before it was to be destroyed by Joshua's army by the power of the Most High God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob:
- Joshua 2:1-6 KJV — And Joshua the son of Nun sent out of Shittim two men to spy secretly, saying, Go view the land, even Jericho. And they went, and came into an harlot's house, named Rahab, and lodged there. And it was told the king of Jericho, saying, Behold, there came men in hither to night of the children of Israel to search out the country. And the king of Jericho sent unto Rahab, saying, Bring forth the men that are come to thee, which are entered into thine house: for they be come to search out all the country. And the woman took the two men, and hid them, and said thus, There came men unto me, but I wist not whence they were: And it came to pass about the time of shutting of the gate, when it was dark, that the men went out: whither the men went I wot not: pursue after them quickly; for ye shall overtake them. But she had brought them up to the roof of the house, and hid them with the stalks of flax, which she had laid in order upon the roof.
The two spies of Joshua who were sent into Jericho, the strong city, were delivered by the hand of a harlot named Rahab, which I believe is a type and shadow of the Gentile Bride of Christ in the New Testament.
Rahab The Harlot
In Joshua Ch. 2, we then see that the spies of Joshua promised the harlot Rahab that she and her family and her belongings would be saved at the time of the destruction of Jericho by the hand of Joshua and they would be given an inheritance in the Promised Land:
- Joshua 2:9-24 KJV — And she said unto the men, I know that the LORD hath given you the land, and that your terror is fallen upon us, and that all the inhabitants of the land faint because of you. For we have heard how the LORD dried up the water of the Red sea for you, when ye came out of Egypt; and what ye did unto the two kings of the Amorites, that were on the other side Jordan, Sihon and Og, whom ye utterly destroyed. And as soon as we had heard these things, our hearts did melt, neither did there remain any more courage in any man, because of you: for the LORD your God, he is God in heaven above, and in earth beneath. Now therefore, I pray you, swear unto me by the LORD, since I have shewed you kindness, that ye will also shew kindness unto my father's house, and give me a true token: And that ye will save alive my father, and my mother, and my brethren, and my sisters, and all that they have, and deliver our lives from death. And the men answered her, Our life for yours, if ye utter not this our business. And it shall be, when the LORD hath given us the land, that we will deal kindly and truly with thee. Then she let them down by a cord through the window: for her house was upon the town wall, and she dwelt upon the wall. And she said unto them, Get you to the mountain, lest the pursuers meet you; and hide yourselves there three days, until the pursuers be returned: and afterward may ye go your way. And the men said unto her, We will be blameless of this thine oath which thou hast made us swear.
The Scarlet Thread
We then see that it is by the "scarlet thread" that Rahab and her family would escape at the time of the destruction of Jericho. This I believe is a type and shadow of the harlot Gentile Bride of the New Covenant being brought out of the ways of the world (Jericho) by the blood of Jesus (Scarlet Thread). Also, it could speak of the rapture of the Church (1 Corinthians 15:52) before the terrible wrath of the LORD upon the world (Jericho) in Daniel's 70th Week with the 7 Seals, 7 Trumpets, and 7 Bowl judgments of the Book of Revelation.
- Joshua 2:18-24 KJV — Behold, when we come into the land, thou shalt bind this line of scarlet thread in the window which thou didst let us down by: and thou shalt bring thy father, and thy mother, and thy brethren, and all thy father's household, home unto thee. And it shall be, that whosoever shall go out of the doors of thy house into the street, his blood shall be upon his head, and we will be guiltless: and whosoever shall be with thee in the house, his blood shall be on our head, if any hand be upon him. And if thou utter this our business, then we will be quit of thine oath which thou hast made us to swear. And she said, According unto your words, so be it. And she sent them away, and they departed: and she bound the scarlet line in the window. And they went, and came unto the mountain, and abode there three days, until the pursuers were returned: and the pursuers sought them throughout all the way, but found them not. So the two men returned, and descended from the mountain, and passed over, and came to Joshua the son of Nun, and told him all things that befell them: And they said unto Joshua, Truly the LORD hath delivered into our hands all the land; for even all the inhabitants of the country do faint because of us.
We see that whoever did not escape on the scarlet thread was to be destroyed by Joshua's Army after the trumpet blast just as those who are not saved by the blood of Christ in these last days will be destroyed during the Day of the LORD and His wrath.
The 7th Day - The Deliverance & Destruction
Later in the Book of Joshua, we see that he commands the priests and Israelites to circle around Joshua for six days until the trumpet is blown and the city of Jericho is taken. This could be a foreshadow of the day of Judgment and the return of Christ on the morning of the prophetic 7th day (7000 year).
- 2 Peter 3:7-8 KJV — But the heavens and the earth, which are now, by the same word are kept in store, reserved unto fire against the day of judgment and perdition of ungodly men. But, beloved, be not ignorant of this one thing, that one day is with the Lord as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day.
It is believed by many scholars that from Adam to Yeshua Jesus it was 4000 years, and from Yeshua Jesus until now it has been almost 2000 years, which makes a total of 6000 years, which is also seen as 6 days.
We see on the 7th Day, Joshua sounds the trumpets and destroys Jericho, which could symbolize the rapture of the Gentile Bride of Christ and the destruction of the world with the 4 horsemen and the rest of the 7 seals, 7 trumpet, and 7 bowl judgments of Revelation:
- Joshua 6:1-5 KJV — Now Jericho was straitly shut up because of the children of Israel: none went out, and none came in. And the LORD said unto Joshua, See, I have given into thine hand Jericho, and the king thereof, and the mighty men of valour. And ye shall compass the city, all ye men of war, and go round about the city once. Thus shalt thou do six days. And seven priests shall bear before the ark seven trumpets of rams' horns: and the seventh day ye shall compass the city seven times, and the priests shall blow with the trumpets. And it shall come to pass, that when they make a long blast with the ram's horn, and when ye hear the sound of the trumpet, all the people shall shout with a great shout; and the wall of the city shall fall down flat, and the people shall ascend up every man straight before him.
The Four Horsemen will be given one fourth of the world's population to kill with hunger, war, and death in the beginning of the 7 year tribulation period (Revelation 6:1-8). This is only four of the 21 judgments of the Book of Revelation (7 Seals, 7 Trumpets, 7 Vials).
• 7 Seals, 7 Trumpets, 7 Vials
• 7 Seals, 7 Trumpets, 7 Vials
The 7th Day Trumpet
We see in multiple passages that the pre-tribulation rapture involves the Trumpet of God, which could be symbolized as the 7 Trumpets of Israel on the 7th Day of Jericho:
- 1 Corinthians 15:52-53 KJV — In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed. For this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal must put on immortality.
- 1 Thessalonians 4:16-17 KJV — For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first: Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord.
Therefore, we can assume the New Testament Gentile Bride of Messiah who was once a harlot living in Jericho (the world) will be delivered by the scarlet thread (the blood of Messiah) before the destruction occurs after the long blast of the trumpet on the morning of the 7th Day:
- Joshua 6:15-25 KJV — And it came to pass on the seventh day, that they rose early about the dawning of the day, and compassed the city after the same manner seven times: only on that day they compassed the city seven times. And it came to pass at the seventh time, when the priests blew with the trumpets, Joshua said unto the people, Shout; for the LORD hath given you the city. And the city shall be accursed, even it, and all that are therein, to the LORD: only Rahab the harlot shall live, she and all that are with her in the house, because she hid the messengers that we sent. And ye, in any wise keep yourselves from the accursed thing, lest ye make yourselves accursed, when ye take of the accursed thing, and make the camp of Israel a curse, and trouble it. But all the silver, and gold, and vessels of brass and iron, are consecrated unto the LORD: they shall come into the treasury of the LORD. So the people shouted when the priests blew with the trumpets: and it came to pass, when the people heard the sound of the trumpet, and the people shouted with a great shout, that the wall fell down flat, so that the people went up into the city, every man straight before him, and they took the city. And they utterly destroyed all that was in the city, both man and woman, young and old, and ox, and sheep, and ass, with the edge of the sword. But Joshua had said unto the two men that had spied out the country, Go into the harlot's house, and bring out thence the woman, and all that she hath, as ye sware unto her. And the young men that were spies went in, and brought out Rahab, and her father, and her mother, and her brethren, and all that she had; and they brought out all her kindred, and left them without the camp of Israel. And they burnt the city with fire, and all that was therein: only the silver, and the gold, and the vessels of brass and of iron, they put into the treasury of the house of the LORD. And Joshua saved Rahab the harlot alive, and her father's household, and all that she had; and she dwelleth in Israel even unto this day; because she hid the messengers, which Joshua sent to spy out Jericho.
The Taking of the New Promised Land
From the Old Testament, we see that the Messiah of Israel was promised to rule from Jerusalem, the city of David, and He was to rule all the nations with a rod of iron (Psalms 2). Yet, this was not to happen until the reconciliation of the nation of Israel in Daniel's 70th Week as revealed in Daniel 9 and Zechariah 12-13.
Then Christ Yeshua Jesus is said to return from Heaven and reclaim Israel and dominion after defeating the Antichrist and his One World Order army:
- Revelation 19:11-21 KJV — And I saw heaven opened, and behold a white horse; and he that sat upon him was called Faithful and True, and in righteousness he doth judge and make war. His eyes were as a flame of fire, and on his head were many crowns; and he had a name written, that no man knew, but he himself. And he was clothed with a vesture dipped in blood: and his name is called The Word of God. And the armies which were in heaven followed him upon white horses, clothed in fine linen, white and clean. And out of his mouth goeth a sharp sword, that with it he should smite the nations: and he shall rule them with a rod of iron: and he treadeth the winepress of the fierceness and wrath of Almighty God. And he hath on his vesture and on his thigh a name written, KING OF KINGS, AND LORD OF LORDS. And I saw an angel standing in the sun; and he cried with a loud voice, saying to all the fowls that fly in the midst of heaven, Come and gather yourselves together unto the supper of the great God; That ye may eat the flesh of kings, and the flesh of captains, and the flesh of mighty men, and the flesh of horses, and of them that sit on them, and the flesh of all men, both free and bond, both small and great. And I saw the beast, and the kings of the earth, and their armies, gathered together to make war against him that sat on the horse, and against his army. And the beast was taken, and with him the false prophet that wrought miracles before him, with which he deceived them that had received the mark of the beast, and them that worshipped his image. These both were cast alive into a lake of fire burning with brimstone. And the remnant were slain with the sword of him that sat upon the horse, which sword proceeded out of his mouth: and all the fowls were filled with their flesh.
This is also prophesied by Daniel the Prophet and Jesus Himself:
- Daniel 7:7-15 KJV — After this I saw in the night visions, and behold a fourth beast, dreadful and terrible, and strong exceedingly; and it had great iron teeth: it devoured and brake in pieces, and stamped the residue with the feet of it: and it was diverse from all the beasts that were before it; and it had ten horns. I considered the horns, and, behold, there came up among them another little horn, before whom there were three of the first horns plucked up by the roots: and, behold, in this horn were eyes like the eyes of man, and a mouth speaking great things. I beheld till the thrones were cast down, and the Ancient of days did sit, whose garment was white as snow, and the hair of his head like the pure wool: his throne was like the fiery flame, and his wheels as burning fire. A fiery stream issued and came forth from before him: thousand thousands ministered unto him, and ten thousand times ten thousand stood before him: the judgment was set, and the books were opened. I beheld then because of the voice of the great words which the horn spake: I beheld even till the beast was slain, and his body destroyed, and given to the burning flame. As concerning the rest of the beasts, they had their dominion taken away: yet their lives were prolonged for a season and time. I saw in the night visions, and, behold, one like the Son of man came with the clouds of heaven, and came to the Ancient of days, and they brought him near before him. And there was given him dominion, and glory, and a kingdom, that all people, nations, and languages, should serve him: his dominion is an everlasting dominion, which shall not pass away, and his kingdom that which shall not be destroyed. I Daniel was grieved in my spirit in the midst of my body, and the visions of my head troubled me.
- Matthew 24:29-31 KJV — Immediately after the tribulation of those days shall the sun be darkened, and the moon shall not give her light, and the stars shall fall from heaven, and the powers of the heavens shall be shaken: And then shall appear the sign of the Son of man in heaven: and then shall all the tribes of the earth mourn, and they shall see the Son of man coming in the clouds of heaven with power and great glory. And he shall send his angels with a great sound of a trumpet, and they shall gather together his elect from the four winds, from one end of heaven to the other.
