Spoken Swords

Psalm 59:7 KJV - Behold, they belch out with their mouth: swords are in their lips: for who, say they, doth hear?

We must know that words are very powerful and can either speak life into someone or speak death. Our words can be a weapon used to destroy and devour or a healing water that sprouts life.

Proverbs 18:21 KJV - Death and life are in the power of the tongue: and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof.

Apostle James also speaks about the power of words:

James 3:5-9 KJV - Even so the tongue is a little member, and boasteth great things. Behold, how great a matter a little fire kindleth! [6] And the tongue is a fire, a world of iniquity: so is the tongue among our members, that it defileth the whole body, and setteth on fire the course of nature; and it is set on fire of hell. [7] For every kind of beasts, and of birds, and of serpents, and of things in the sea, is tamed, and hath been tamed of mankind: [8] But the tongue can no man tame; it is an unruly evil, full of deadly poison. [9] Therewith bless we God, even the Father; and therewith curse we men, which are made after the similitude of God.

If a child grows up hearing he is a loser, a failure, I believe he will root it into his identity. Our words have the power to destroy innocent ones, to corrupt their minds with ungodly words.

As Christians should keep our eyes, ears, and thoughts from all appearances of evil. Even from television, radio, and ungodly literature. We must prove all things using the Holy scriptures because it is the guidebook to life.

As Christians, we must be careful in the words we speak, and keep our conversations holy and pure.

Psalm 34:13-17 KJV - Keep thy tongue from evil, and thy lips from speaking guile. [14] Depart from evil, and do good; seek peace, and pursue it. [15] The eyes of the Lord are upon the righteous, and his ears are open unto their cry. [16] The face of the Lord is against them that do evil, to cut off the remembrance of them from the earth. [17] The righteous cry, and the Lord heareth, and delivereth them out of all their troubles.

We know that Jesus will judge every word we have spoken:

Matthew 12:34-37 KJV - O generation of vipers, how can ye, being evil, speak good things? for out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaketh. [35] A good man out of the good treasure of the heart bringeth forth good things: and an evil man out of the evil treasure bringeth forth evil things. [36] But I say unto you, That every idle word that men shall speak, they shall give account thereof in the day of judgment. [37] For by thy words thou shalt be justified, and by thy words thou shalt be condemned.

Please brothers and sisters, be slow to speak and careful with your words.

If we are upset we should be even more careful of what we say, and to think before we speak:

James 1:19-21 KJVS - Wherefore my beloved brethren, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath: [20] For the wrath of man worketh not the righteousness of God. [21] Wherefore lay apart all filthiness and superfluity of naughtiness, and receive with meekness the engrafted word, which is able to save your souls.

It is by our words that justifies or condemns us, so we should be very careful because our words can definitely ourselves and others as well:

Matthew 15:16-20 KJV - And Jesus said, Are ye also yet without understanding? [17] Do not ye yet understand, that whatsoever entereth in at the mouth goeth into the belly, and is cast out into the draught? [18] But those things which proceed out of the mouth come forth from the heart; and they defile the man. [19] For out of the heart proceed evil thoughts, murders, adulteries, fornications, thefts, false witness, blasphemies: [20] These are the things which defile a man: but to eat with unwashen hands defileth not a man.

Let us be wise and use our words carefully, and to use our words to buikd each other up and edify others:

Ephesians 4:29 KJVS - Let no corrupt communication proceed out of your mouth, but that which is good to the use of edifying, that it may minister grace unto the hearers.
